ExhibitionsFlowers

Museum Exhibition 1997

For centuries, flowers have been embroidered on textiles in silk, cotton, beads, and metal threads in a wide range of techniques. Flowers native to each country or region and exotic and stylised or imagined flowers have been carefully stitched. Flowers are also embroidered as motifs because of their symbolism – for example the forget-me-not, red and white roses, lotus flower and peony.
