Physical Description
White linen tablecloth. Embroidered floral circle in the centre of a diamond shape. Surface stitches include satin, lazy daisy, stem and French knots in varied colours of reds, pinks, blues, greens and yellow. Signatures are worked in variegated blues. 'Irene Fleming 1948' has been stitched in the bottom of the diamond shape.
Theme and Purpose
Commemorative. Family cloth. Signature tablecloth from Violet Fleming’s Glory Box. The cloth was given to her by her mother-in-law to be in 1948 (Irene Fleming whose name appears in the centre of the cloth). Violet embroidered her cloth over a period of time. She worked as a seamstress in a bridal salon in Whyalla at the time.
