Physical Description

Square white linen cloth with 'CWA KINGSTON 1937' embroidered in the centre in what looks like satin stitch, surrounded by names worked in the corners and around the edge. All embroidery is in red thread. The names are embroidered in stem stitch.

Theme and Purpose

Commemorative. South Australian Country Women's Association. Kingston Branch Membership. Inaugural members who started the Kingston CWA Branch in 1936. (The women were very isolated. The CWA was important for friendship and would meet once a month, on a Saturday afternoon while their husbands were at the football. Their children would be minded in a crèche).
