Physical Description
Pink silk Dong minority child's hat with an open crown and centre back seam. Two flap 'ears' with fur edging. Symmetrical appliquéd bird shapes are on the back. Nine applied 'flame' shapes across the front are topped with a red silk scrolling motif and are flanked by two further scrolling green silk shapes. All shapes are bordered with gold or silver metallic strips which are couched down and are decorated with sequins and embroidery. A machinemade ribbon decorated with red flowers and green foliage has been applied around the rim. Stitches include pistil, French knot, buttonhole and long and short stitch. Silk thread.
