Physical Description
Black Miao cotton baby carrier. The two large sections of the bronze coloured handwoven centre panel are totally covered with very fine blue and green geometric satin stitched embroidery. The panel is edged with handwoven braid and commercial black and purple strips. A separate (attached at the top) flap in dark indigo is handwoven and decorated with a geometric design in very fine green and purple cross stitching. It has a houndstooth edge in satin stitch. The very long and wide straps are predominantly handwoven indigo. There is a section of natural handwoven fabric at the ends, with knotted fringing in the same thread. Where the straps join the centre panel, there are two patches with geometric green and blue satin stitch and at the opposite end, the natural handwoven fabric is pattern darned with indigo thread. Cotton and silk thread.
