Crewel work sampler showing solid filling stitches. Filling stitches shown are:- satin, random satin, padded satin, stem, split, chain, broad chain, colonial knot, bokhara, buttonhole, cretan, vandyke, fishbone, surface darning, long and short shading, buttonhole shading, block shading, buttonhole filling. The trailing stems are worked in broad chain stitch. An accompanying chart shows the placement of the stitches.
