Physical Description
Ceremonial Phulkari from the Punjab area in India. The ground fabric is hand-loomed cotton in a russet colour, madder dyed. The entire ground is covered with diamond pattern worked in gold and cream silk floss with the occasional inclusion of other colours. Phulkari are worked entirely from the back where the stitch is taken over only one thread of the ground.
