Physical Description
One half of a Turkish towel of hand-woven cotton and linen with gold, silver and silk embroidery. The design consists of three motifs across the end of the towel, a central tree of life flanked by boteh shaped leaf motifs and flowers. Worked in double darning and satin stitches. There is a narrow border of geometric satin stitch in silver and gold. It is finished with a fringe made by twisting the warp ends in groups of four. The towel is possibly from Bursa and the inclusion of the tree of life suggests that this may be a wedding towel.
