Physical Description

A boy's cotton hat from the Akha minority group in Thailand. The cap is of black hand-woven indigo-dyed cotton with a front panel of strips of brown cotton stitched together with black. One strip is couched with red thread. Ornamented with silver discs and cowrie shells, two India 1917, 1918 coins, 5 metal balls. A panel is edged with cream seeds. Pink tassel on top. Black braid with five rows of very fine stitchery. Back decorated with three separate loops of cream seeds and red, fluffy tassel with pink and green cotton tail. Fine embroidery also around the gathered top.
