Physical Description

Embroidered baby carrier as used by the Miao people of Southern China. The back panel is of blue and red silk with dragons, birds, animals and insects embroidered in bright colours. There are a series of borders, some with embroidery and others with tiny folded triangles. A small flap at the top edge has similar embroidery and is weighted with Chinese coins. The very wide ties are of black polished cotton - probably hand-woven and indigo dyed.
