A hat pin cushion of red velvet with applied bead embroidery in a design of a bird perched on a branch and two flags. Red, clear (white) green, yellow, blue and grey beads have been used. The beads are stitched in runs of four to nine beads on stiffened fabric. The motifs were then applied to velvet. The firmly stuffed cushion has a glazed chintz backing.
