Physical Description
A man's white linen shirt with cotton ruffle. The shirt is entirely hand stitched. The style is typical of the period consisting of one loom width of fabric running from front to back with a 'T' shape cut to form the neck opening. The sleeves are each one half loom width. The shaping is achieved with gussets and gathers. This is an excellent example of fine plain sewing. The shirt is marked with the date 1834 and a name which is indecipherable.
