Physical Description

Linen sampler embroidered with silk by 'Elizabeth Mills on July 12 1826 aged 12 years'.Includes various motifs commonly seen in early 19th century samplers such as butterflies, bees, birds in flight, peacocks, flowers, vases of flowers and trees. In the centre of the upper half of the sampler are two angels on either side of a crowned garland. In the centre of the lower half is a red brick 18th century country house and a windmill (post mill type).Around the outside edge of the sampler is an arcaded border, with a carnation in each arcade.Blue, green, red, pink, gold and silver silk thread used.
