Physical Description
An Igbo (Ibo) masquerade costume from Nigeria. A full length body suit richly embellished with appliquéd decoration in red, yellow and green fabrics against a black cotton ground. There are two breast shaped additions and a similar umbilical cord appropriately placed. The stitching is worked through the ground fabric to a very coarse, natural coloured backing fabric. There is a high black neck piece which would have gone under a mask.
