Physical Description
Two embroidered roundels cut from large hanging that decorates the "gers" (or yurts) of the nomadic peoples of the extreme western region of Mongolia close to the Russian border.(a) Symmetical design worked in hooked chain stitch in pink, green, white and buff on a black ground. The piece is lined with red cotton print and the stitching has been worked through borh layers.(b) Symmetrical design worked in hooked chain stitch in red, blue and white on black ground. The faded whitish cotton backing fabric has been worked through by the stitching.This appears to be fresher and newer than roundel (a).
