Physical Description

Armenian table cover from a village in Eastern Turkey. Marash work - interlaced stitch with chain stitch outlining stitch. Coarse cotton cloth, indigo dyed. Central circular motifs surrounded by square grid. Marash work describes extensive interlaced stitch, closely covering the base cloth. Colours - faded reddish pink, grey blue and cream with ochre. Lined with old cotton fabric.
