Physical Description
Belt from Aini, Xiehuangbanna area, Yunan Province, China. Lower part of hand-woven, indigo-dyed fabric with geometric cross stitch design, small white metal discs and muticoloured glass bead fringe. All hand stitched. The sash is tied around the waist under the jacket, both ends hanging in front, Being heavily weighted, it falls betweem the woman's legs when she sits or squats protecting her modesty. There are pockets in the belt.
