Physical Description
Contemporary San Blas mola panel for a woman's blouse - thought to have been made for the tourist trade. Reverse appliqué and appliqué. The panel has a white base which, using reverse appliqué technique, shows boldly through the top black layer to reveal the outline of the main animal motif. Strips of middle layers of pink, yellow and orange colours surround the animal motif. The main animal motif is completed with applied pieces of multicoloured shapes with decorative stitching. Stitches include chain, herringbone, buttonhole and straight. Two smaller animals with similar decorative stitching are applied to the lower part of the panel.
