Physical Description
Dong Minority child's hat constructed from six triangular embroidered sections, with attached brim and back flap. Each section is embroidered with an enclosed serpentine design using a whipped cord made from tightly bound silk threads. The cord is couched and outlined in fine Pekinese stitch. Back flap and brim are of hand-dyed indigo fabric with an applied border of red cotton. Top knot is padded red cotton. The red ball on top of the hat emulates the jewelled insignia worn on the hats of court officials.
