Physical Description
An unfinished beaded Berlin wool work shelf valance. The beaded floral design is worked in black, white, grey and amber beads. Beadwork worked in these colours gave a base relief effect and was known as 'grisaille' work. The background is outlined in black wool but has not been worked. It was common for pieces to be sold with the beading complete leaving only the background to be worked.
