Museum Exhibition 2002
This exhibition is not a complete overview of work that was being done during the early years of our Guild, some memorable members from those years are not represented, but through the kindness of present members and their families, we have been able to show a wide variety of styles and techniques. Some of the pieces on display are already part of the Museum’s collection but the majority have been loaned to the Museum for the duration of the exhibition. The embroidery of thirty two foundation and early members of the Guild in Adelaide and the Eyre Peninsula Branch of the Guild, both founded at the same time, and other Country Branches founded later, demonstrates their skills, range of techniques, dedication and creativity.
In the first years of the Guild, the sixties, there were several members who were already members of the Embroiderers Guild in London and they did correspondence courses in various techniques. Some of the pieces on exhibition come from these courses.
