Physical Description

The doll, named ‘Rose de Peace’, was totally handmade. The head is of painted papier maché with real hair while the body, with movable arms and legs, is made of felt. Fully dressed in blue, the doll is wearing a blue bonnet and smocked and embroidered dress, petticoat and scanties with a knitted white singlet and socks and white leather shoes. The bonnet has a stiffened brim. Fabrics are cotton, rayon, felt and wool. Techniques include smocking, surface stitchery, eyelet embroidery, hemstitching and knitting.
