Physical Description

Huipil or tunic from the Mexican village of Chinantica. The tunic is hand-embroidered on hand-woven cotton ground. Wide vertical bands of embroidery cover the joins in the strips of narrow back-strap woven fabric. The embroidery is mainly pattern darning in red with designs of peacocks and geometric shapes.
