Physical Description

The silk embroidery entirely covers the surface of this bag. A 3cm band around the top is worked in a geometric pattern in cross stitch in reds, brown, orange, purple and white with four rows of long-armed cross in green. A zig-zag pattern, similar in appearance to Florentine embroidery, has been worked on the body of the bag in purple, red, pink green, orange, white and black. The bag is edged with a handmade fringe of coloured silk, twisted with a bead at the end of each twist. A long cord at the top of the bag is decorated with beaded silk tassels. The lining is of flower-patterned red cotton. Possibly Hazara style from Jaghori area of Afghanistan.
