Physical Description
Red silk Chinese hanging of two joined panels (each 32.5cm) worked allover with sprays of pale blue, mauve, gray and beige flowers and bats, goldwork Chinese characters and 8 large figures in similar blue/gray tones. The figures are possibly representative of Chinese philosophers and are spaced evenly across the width of the piece. A border worked allover with smaller sprays of blue flowers and multicoloured butterflies and a lotus bud? border top and bottom has been applied along the sides and bottom. Chinese silk embroidery. Possibly eighteenth century.
